    BLOCKCHAIN FOR IMPACT SUMMIT 2019

    FRONTIER TECHNOLOGIES POWERING BLOCKCHAIN

I had the pleasure of joining the Blockchain For Impact Summit 2019 this year, on a panel called Ocean Action and Stewardship for our Life Support System together with Anoufo Havea and Jeremy McKane.

Blockchain for Impact (BFI), is a collaborative convening, and advocacy platform serving the full breadth of the global blockchain ecosystem as it engages with leaders within the UN system.

BFI is focused on bringing the Blockchain community together to help solve the most urgent challenges of our day, building on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as a framework for impact.

Members of Blockchain for Impact (BFI) are invited to participate in an ongoing series of impact-oriented events and task forces throughout the year. Through the Commission, Blockchain for Impact members will engage with the United Nations system on industry governance, regulatory standards, and social impact projects, working closely with the UN Departments, Funds, Programs, and Specialized Agencies, to apply blockchain technology to sustainable development and humanitarian goals.

Big shout out to Sergio Fernando de Cordova and his team for making it all happen, I hope we were able to inspire a few people in the room to take action for the oceans.

    THE ULTRAMARINE OCEAN SUMMIT

In early February 2021, a diverse group of scientists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, explorers, artists, and athletes gathered once again on Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island with a mission to protect the ocean.

The Ultramarine Ocean Summit brought together this eclectic group with a singular focus: taking action on ocean conservation. Luminaries including Sylvia Earle, former President of Kiribati Anote Tong, Ayana Johnson of Ocean Collectiv, John Vermilye of Gallifrey Foundation, Debbie Kinder of Blue Ocean Institute and others presented the urgent issues, opportunities, new findings, and top priorities to be addressed in the effort to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.

Event organizers Susi Mai, professional kiteboarder and ocean conservationist, and Jeremy McKane, Lucid Project and Ocean Currency Network founder, formed the group with the goal of creating a community, not a conference.

While the event was brief, the bonds formed among the members are strong, and already producing results.

The next gathering where this community will meet is at the Cabarete Kite Festival, celebrating watersports and conservation in Susi's hometown in the Dominican Republic.

Ocean Summit 4 is scheduled for January 30 - February 5, 2022, when the group will return to Necker Island to welcome new members, track accomplishments and set new goals.

“We want to create a culture of ocean conservation in the various sectors our attendees represent. Most ocean conservation gatherings preach to one or another choir. We invited a diverse group of ocean guardians who prioritize taking action, and who will hold each other accountable to the conservation commitments they make.”

RED BULL RALLY DOS VENTOS 2017

I am beyond stoked to announce that I won first place in the Red Bull Rally dos Ventos event in Brazil, Sept 16, 2017.

It is a "Kite Endurance" event where 40 competitors had to race 65km through the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.

It was a tough race and the start was so hectic that I had no idea what position I was in until after I crossed the finish line.

Legs, skin and even my eyeballs were burning but the wind was cooperating, helping us get across the giant sand dunes between the lagoons.

Once my legs were getting too tired, I started testing out different ways to get across the dunes and ended up actually finding out that sitting on your board like a sled lets you not only conserve energy but also steer yourself left and right.

After close to 3 hours out there, I rounded the last corner, climbed the last dune and finally saw the finish line. It was one of the most rewarding moments to kite through the gates and even more so when I found out I had won !!!

Special thanks for Red Bull for putting this incredible event together and to the people of the Lencois, for doing such a great job at protecting this magical place.

    Xx
